The Village
Eptalofos (Agoriani)
Eptalofos or Agoriani is built on the northwestern slopes of Parnassos and is characterized by many – and not unfairly – as one of the most beautiful mountain villages in Greece.
At an altitude of 850 to 940 meters, on seven hills in the embrace of Parnassos, lies a place straight out of a fairy tale. Ano Agoriani or Eptalofos as its new name is, is a true diamond of the mountain of Apollo. Literally drowned in fir and plane trees, it immediately wins over anyone who “slips away” from the well-known Arachova.
With its trademark impressive waterfall and the unparalleled natural beauty that surrounds it from end to end, this side of Parnassos promises to captivate every visitor at all times of the year.
Agoriani as we say… Austria. They say that if you haven’t seen Agoriani covered in snow, you haven’t seen anything. Snowfalls in Agoriani are a frequent phenomenon in winter, a fact that, combined with the fir forest, contributes to the composition of a unique fairy-tale landscape. Literally. It has rightly acquired the reputation of the snow queen of Parnassos… and not only.
Sights
Central Square
Agoriani Square with its famous fountains and ancient plane trees is the most popular part of the village. Here there are several options for coffee and tsipouro accompanied by delicious meze, as well as taverns serving traditional dishes.
Agoriani Waterfall: A walk to the village’s trademark is a must. From the village square, a paved path begins that leads to the natural attraction of the area.
7 Springs of Agoriani
It is just a few minutes from the village square and is considered an ideal place for relaxation and rejuvenation. The chapel of Agioi Anargyroi, dating from the 19th century, is built on a spring, the waters of which gush from 7 fountains, at the back of the church. The locals also call them the 7 springs.
Eptalofos Folklore Museum
It is located in the center of the settlement, very close to the central square of the village. A visit to the museum gives the traveler the opportunity to get to know the customs and traditions of the area as well as the way of life in the past.
Church of Agia Paraskevi
This is a beautiful chapel with an impressive garden that in spring and summer hosts all kinds of aromatic and ornamental plants. A little above the church there is a plateau with a fountain and a beautiful view of the slopes of Parnassos and the plain of Boeotian Kifissus. It is said that the writer Angelos Sikelianos wrote several of his masterpieces there.
Waterfall with a wooden bridge
Going down from the square towards the Folklore Museum and continuing approximately 300m. after the tavern Griza Arkouda, you will come across the second waterfall of the village. There is a bench, a stone fountain and a small wooden bridge at the spot.
Vasiliki Spring
Surrounded by dense vegetation and some of the most impressive… chalets of Agoriani, is the Vasiliki Spring. According to the locals, digestive water gushes from there. The route is ideal for a walk from the village square and relaxation under the plane trees.
Agia Triada
This is a beautiful chapel surrounded by fir trees in a stunning location that is reminiscent of an Alpine landscape. The route starts from Agoriani square following the European path E4 with most of it consisting of a smooth dirt road.
Mana Spring
This is an impressive natural attraction of the village. The idyllic route starts from the small upper square of Agoriani. Following the flow of water that ends at the waterfall, you will reach the source where the water gushes from the bowels of the earth.
Eptastomo
The impressive Eptastomo chasm is found in western Parnassos near the Kalania location at an altitude of 1300m. In the cave with the seven mouths, the snow never melts since the temperature inside does not exceed 0° C. Entrance to the chasm is not possible for the public, except by well-trained people with special equipment. However, above the chasm, one can carefully distinguish part of the glacier. At the 7th km. from Eptalofos to Arachova, at the Dokanos location, approximately 3 km. before the intersection for the Parnassos Ski Center, we find a signpost to Eptastomo and Kalania.
